False Lashes!

Today I wanna talk about false lashes. I used to have a love hate relationship with it when I first started cos THEY WERE A PAIN TO APPLY. But I have to say, as cliche as it sounds, practice does makes perfect.

If you have trouble putting it on yourself, just get someone to put it on for you. There is no skill required when someone else does it. Just put it right along your lashline and VOILA.

The main reason why you may face problems applying lashes is cos the glue is not tacky enough. Give it a good 2 mins to set. I always curl and apply mascara while I wait for my lashes to dry.

Also, just because you are applying lashes, it does not mean that you dont need to curl and apply mascara! It is very important that your natural lashes and false lashes bind together! Seperated lashes are a mega faus pax.

Anw the main purpose why I wanted to do this post, it to show yall the different types of lashes that I like, and the different effects it gives.

I am not a lash snob -  I use both expensive and better quality lashes and the cheaper, more plasticky looking ones. Not all cheap lashes are bad, we just need to know how to choose the right ones, and learn how to use them properly.

1) Personally, my favourite type of lashes to use are the type that goes from short to long and flares out at the ends. For these sort of lashes, it is important that the hairs are soft and natural looking. So I would not recommend getting those that look very plastic, cos it loses the flirty, messy effect.

These add a nice touch of drama to your eyes without looking too over the top, cos it is voluminous without being too long.

2) These are the inspired Ardell  Lashes that I got from Taobao. They are also very nice glam lashes. Very pretty for nights out and special occassion, but they may be a little much for daily use.

If you look closely, the second type are messier and the part near the the lash band is a little criss crossed. This makes the lashes look slightly messier and I really like the effect that it gives.

3) These are my formal event/ presentation lashes. Yes I wear falsies when I have presentations, it makes me feel more confident heh. I think these are very work and day appropriate especially for people who have short and very little lashes. Criss crossed lashes are for volume and because these are not too long, they help to add volume to your lashes without making it look too dramatic.
I like them cos they help to make my eyes look more defined and a whole lot prettier :D My mum got them in Hong Kong for me so I am not sure where to get this :/

4) These are the kind of lashes that I dont really like. They are very long, but they don't add volume to the lashes. These would be good for those who have thick lashes, that may not be long.
Also, since they are lengthening without being voluminous, I think it looks quite odd and unnatural cos your lashes just looks ridiculously long and feeble.

5) These were the lashes that I used to love. They are a good combination of volume and length. They are also very dramatic. I have not been wearing these very often recently, cos I think as I get older I am not favouring the dramatic look anymore.

But they are beautiful~! I get these at a shop at Bugis Village. It is the beauty store on level 2 ( the air conditioned part) that is near the toilet. Before I started buying lashes online, I always bought lashes from that shop. It sells these 'premium lashes' at the cheapest price. They are 25 SGD for 2 boxes of 5 pairs each, which is one of the cheapest in bugis I think.

5) Mega dramatic lashes. These are the lashes that taiwanese girls use when they do their extreme makeovers on TV. They look quite intimidating, but they are not that scary I promise.
For those with single eyelids, these lashes with a very stiff band would be suitable and can be more flattering because the stiff band would help to support the eyelids and can help to create the double eyelid effect.

6) Single lashes. These lashes are very commonly used at weddings, because they create very natural drama and we are able to control how long or voluminous we want our lashes to look.
We can add a couple to single lashes to the ends to add a nice flair to the lashes.
7) These are the cheapest and my most commonly used lashes at the moment. As you can see, it looks very plasticky, stiff and whole lot less pretty than the more expensive ones, but that is only the case when you use them whole.
I LOVE using them as half lashes. Just cut them into half and add them to the ends of your lashes to create very natural volume, length and definition to your eyes. They are really flattering, and perfect for daily use cos they look so natural.
Also, half lashes are a whole lot easier to apply than an entire strip of lash ^^
Falsies Tips!
1) When your expensive lashes are looking abit wonky after a few uses, dont throw them away yet, cut them into half and use them as half lashes!
If you are using the ones that are shorter in front and longer at the ends, I would suggest using the shorter ones as half lashes. Cos the longer ends tends to be a wee bit too long to be used as half lashes, but its up to you!
2) When buying lashes online. I would suggest buying lashes online when you are a bit more experienced, or after you have read reviews and know what type of lashes suit you, or when you know what you want. This is because when you buy from ebay or taobao, there are so many options available and it can get overwhelming.
Selecting the right type of lashes is very important! Not all lashes would be suitable for everyone~
Im sorry for the lack of updates, I have had an insanely busy week and barely enought time to get any rest at all, cos I had to prepare for my Korea trip. I am going on a summer program with my faculty. The overseas part is 5 days long. We will be going to Korea to look at 1) Investment properties and funds that Singaporean firms has invested in Korea 2) Urban planning practices and policies in Seoul. How To Shop Taobao

So I just got a terrifying email notifying me that I have to be in school from 10am-3pm from tomorrow till Friday, to prepare for my summer program. This is absolutely horrifying because it means that I only had 6 days of holidays, and 10 am is not humane AT ALL. Especially after last semester where I only had afternoon classes, as in 2pm onwards afternoon classes :x

Okay, moving on to a happier note, I wanted to do this post about how to shop taobao because when I first started shopping on taobao, I was so overwhelmed cos there is so much stuff on there.

Also, when you use the search selection eg: Shirts, Women's clothes etc, it always yields very weird results, as in the stuff doesnt look good. So after much browsing, I found this tab/thingy on tabao, where it has lists of the most popular items, and items that people are currently talking about.

I'll just briefly go through the steps that I do whenever I buy on Taobao!

1) For Singaporeans: It is easier to go through an agent, who will place your orders for you.

The agent that I used was . They are pretty good, and the system is quite easy to use, we just have to copy the link of the items that we want to place orders. But the payment and shipping system is a tad confusing, cos we have to pay first into 'account' and then they would deduct money from our account.

We also have to choose our shipping method, whether we want a private/joint spree when the items arrive at the warehouse in China. I had to keep going back to the site to check on the status on my items.

Apart from these, the agents are very prompt in replying emails, and they provided me with free local postage and had my items delivered right to my door step^^ Very happy with that! Plus my items arrived in pristine condition!

2) Navigate the Taobao Site and start shopping!

This is the part where it can be quite/very time consuming and overwhelming.

I always go straight to the page I was mentioning earlier,

It is at the top of the main page, click on the '我要逛' , and it would lead you to the page where all the trending items are.
If I want to get false lashes, I normally just enter '假睫毛' into the search bar of the main page.
Cos there would be more options to choose from.
Because there are so many stores, and so many things up for sale, if I see something I like, or a particular style that I fancy, I will make sure to check out the store, because they general style would be quite similar.
3) If you are using an agent, just copy the link of the item you want, and the system will do the rest for you!
A) Since it is a Chinese website, it would be better if you can read chinese. It would be a whole lot easier to navigate and read the reviews and all.
B) I would not recommend buying cosmetics from Taobao because your order may be rejected if the item is flammable or whatnot. Also if the packaging is made of glass, there may be a high risk of it breaking. It may spill on the way too. If my memory serves me right, some agents does not ship cosmetics, not even eyelash glue. For liquid products, shipping would be a whole lot more troublesome. Shipping for liquid products is by Air only, so it would be more expensive!
C) We can still buy beauty products! Lashes, double eyelid tape, beauty tools etc is fine!
 D) ALWAYS READ REVIEWS. Especially if you are getting clothes/ shoes etc. Because the pictures may not always reflect the true image. The reviews are very important if you want to get a better idea of the fit/quality of whatever you are getting.
I think this was why everything I got fit well and was of good quality~ It is more time consuming but absolutely worth it I promise.
This is why I would recommend Taobao to those who can read chinese characters as the reviews are all in chinese.
E) Caution when buying bottoms! This is from Eugenia who has bought bottoms from Taobao before. The cut tends to run small, so be sure to read the reviews and maybe consider getting a size or two up.
Personally, I think shopping at Taobao is riskier than shopping at say, ASOS or the Korean Gmarket, cos what you see may not be what you get. So I dont buy anything expensive, the max I would pay for apparel is about 100 RMB which is about 20 SGD, just in case the quality or fit is not what I expected.
This is not to say that Taobao is not good! I think it all comes with experience! This was my second time shopping at Taobao and I must say it would not be my last! Check out my Taobao haul Here
Have a good week ahead yall xxx

Taobao Haul

My exams are finally over!! I am so excited for the upcoming summer holidays because I would be trying new things and hopefully have a very fufilling 3 months.

I would be going to Seoul for about 2 weeks! For my department's summer program plus holidays! I am so lucky and thankful that we are going to seoul this year, because my department always goes to either China or Vietnam for our summer programs! Awesome stuff there, Alice and my other friends from exchange would be in Seoul, so yay for that. Apparently there is some event at KU, an annual concert? That would be on the 24th May, I am excited for that.

Of course, the shopping, I will check out the CC creams and hopefully be able to do some reviews about them. I will share my shopping list and places to shop hopefully before I leave SG, or when I get back! Do look out for that^^

I will blog more about shopping and the works in another post, before I digress even more, lets go into the haul~~

I dont think Taobao is unfamilliar to most, it is the Chinese version of Gmarket. I really like shopping there, but I dont do it often, because the things that we get is often a hit or miss in terms of quality and fit, but Im not complaining cos they are not expensive.

I am alot more cautious when I buy clothes on Taobao, so my favourite thing to buy is false lashes. You get good quality lashes for cheap. I only buy lashes on Taobao actually.

My only qualm is that it takes quite a while for the items to arrive. I think my order took about 3 weeks to arrive?

Anyhos, my order arrived well, with no mishaps (thank god) :D I spent about 170 SGD and I got A LOT of stuff.

I got 4 dresses and 3 tops. They are all about 10-15 SGD each? Shipping works out to about 2-3 SGD per piece? The quality was pretty decent too ^^

I got 4 boxes of lashes this time, the 2 are pricier and of better quality. I like getting the cheaper lashes to use them as half lashes.

I also got double eyelid tape! They are the double sided ones. They were really cheap! I think they work out to less than 2SGD per pack after shipping and all the misc costs.

I saw this on 女人我最大, they call it the eyelid fibre? It works just like the double sided eyelid tape, but stronger and more invisbible I think. This was about 5 SGD ish?

I got new shades and a coupla accessories as well^^

I am so loving my new loots ^^
I have to go and prepare for my nights out/end of semester party!!!! YAY I am so excited. HAVE A GOOD SUMMER YALL <3 Drink up and party hard~
